Jean Alesi, an Italian-born French racing driver, began his career in karting before moving to circuit racing in the Renault 5 series and then Formula Renault Turbo.
In 1986, he debuted in French Formula 3 and finished the season second, behind the more experienced Yannick Dalmas.
Dominance in Formula 3 and F3000
In 1987, Alesi won the French Formula 3 championship with seven victories in 15 races.
